WIZO MISSION
The Women’s International Zionist Organisation (WIZO) is a non-party international movement dedicated to the advancement of the status of women, welfare of all sectors of Israeli society and encouragement of Jewish education in Israel and the Diaspora.
WIZO GOALS
- To provide for the welfare of infants, children, youth, women and the elderly.
- To advance the status of women in Israel.
- To strengthen the bond between World Jewry and the State of Israel.
- To support the absorption of new immigrants in Israel.
WIZO NEW ZEALAND HAS A PROPOSAL FOR SPONSORSHIP OF THE EARLY AGE ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME AT THE WIZO CHARLOTTE BEECHAM & JACQUELINE LEWIS DAY CARE CENTRE, ACCO ISRAEL
The early age assessment programme takes place over an 8 month period and consists of the following:
- Expenditures Cost in New Israel Shekels
- Staff instruction – 30 hours monthly 66,000
- Early Age instructional assistant per week 13,200
- Parent Group Training meetings 4,400
- TOTAL 83,600 NIS / $32,892 NZ
The Charlotte Beecham & Jacqueline Lewis Day Care Centre, opened in 2003 and is located in the Shiklun Mizrach neighbourhood of east Acco (Gershon Yossef Street).
Many children attending the DCC come from middle to low income families with working mothers, and most remain in the DCC until 4p.m. Several of the children in the DCC suffer from development deficiencies, in their speech and minor skills. Comprehensive Care Centres operate from 7am to 7pm which foster the stable environment some of their homes are unable to provide. Meals are provided for the children every day. WIZO realises the importance of early intervention to correct problems and insecurity by the children. The 3 classroom facility currently serves 17 staff members who care for 80 children, 6 of whom were referred by welfare authorities. All activities are to promote the development of day-to-day experiential learning the children are involved in a wide range of activities offering them opportunities for self-expression in a warm and secure atmosphere,some of which include:
- Musical activities
- Guided imagery
- Arts and crafts
- Story time
All classroom teachers have completed courses on effective methods for pre-school children. Programming includes:
- Nutritional enrichment, including meals
- Cooking/Baking
- Lending Library
- Movement classes
- Rhythmic Classes
