We warmly welcome visitors to our Synagogue. Affiliated with the Progressive (Reform) Movement, our services follow a traditional pattern. Jews conduct prayer in a community, represented by a minyan, a minimum of 10 Jewish adults. At Beth Shalom, all those above the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah, male and female, are counted toward a minyan and read from the Torah. Shabbat services begin at 6:30pm on Friday nights. Participation by congregants of all ages and both sexes gives a warm and traditional flavour to Beth Shalom’s Shabbat services. Saturday morning observance offers the opportunity for members to share in the happy occasions of their fellow congregants including B’nai Mitzvot and baby namings. Saturday morning services start at 10am.
Our services are conducted in a combination of English and Hebrew. The Siddur (prayer book), that we use is called Mishkan T’filah.
On the first Friday of the month we have a lovely social evening that is gaining in popularity month by month. Following services, we have the first of the Sabbath Feasts “Se’udot” in the form of a Pot Luck Dinner. It’s a great opportunity to strike up new acquaintances in a relaxed, cheerful Jewish environment. In addition to services a lively fun dinner and occasional guest speakers, we celebrate children’s birthdays for the coming month.
