Why become a member?

We are privileged to be made up of committed, involved, and passionate membership, and the strength of our community relies on our members’ ongoing participation. Through membership to Beth Shalom, congregants demonstrate their commitment to our community, to the future of Judaism, and to progressive Jewish values in the world.

Benefits of Membership

We offer a robust slate of services and special events at the High Holidays and throughout the year. Our services are led by Rabbi Dean, along with lay leaders who prepare especially for the sacred task of leading the community.

Our Youth Education and Bnei Mitzvah programmes teach Jewish values while bolstering self-esteem and fostering great friendships within the community.

At Beth Shalom we gather to celebrate with one another in times of joy, and to comfort one another in times of grief. Through shared ritual and practice, we honour all stages of life from birth, b’nai mitzvah, marriage and death. We support our community as individuals, creating ceremonies that reflect their unique needs.
How much does it cost?

Membership to Beth Shalom includes Rabbinic support, Yachad, religious services all year round, adult education, lifecycle events, and community and pastoral care. It also includes membership to the Union of Progressive Judaism, so that you can participate in services at any other UPJ synagogue around the world. Fees for ARZA membership, Burial and Benevolent Society, etc. are additional. Membership subscriptions are invoiced annually in February, and are a crucial component of meeting our operating costs.
What if I can't afford it?

Beth Shalom’s policy is that financial constraints should not prevent a person or family from applying for membership. Beth Shalom will always be sympathetic to those who feel they are unable to contribute the full annual membership dues. If this is the case for you, please tick the box requesting to discuss the matter with an executive member and they will get in touch. Discussions regarding dues concessions are undertaken in a totally confidential manner. Please note that any concessions granted are reviewed annually.

How does the membership application work?

Processing can take up to a month. In the meantime, we’ll be in touch to let you know we’ve received your application and see how we can best welcome you to the community.

The application includes an option to sign up for the mailing list, which is the best way to keep up to date with the services and activities taking pace at Beth Shalom. We invite you to join us as you consider membership or as your application is pending.
